Fujifilm X100VI Street Photography Settings
The best film simulation settings for street photography on the X100VI. Fast autofocus setup, zone focusing tips, and recipe recommendations.
The X100VI is arguably the best street photography camera ever made. The 23mm f/2 lens, the leaf shutter, the compact body. But getting the right settings dialed in makes the difference between good and great street work.
Autofocus Setup for Street
Set your AF mode to AF-C (continuous) with Zone or Wide/Tracking. Street subjects move unpredictably and single-point AF will miss the moment. AF-C with Zone gives you a good balance of speed and accuracy.
For really fast shooting, set the back button to AF-ON and use the shutter button for metering only. This lets you pre-focus and shoot without waiting for the camera to hunt.
Zone Focusing
The real street photography trick: switch to manual focus, set your aperture to f/8 or f/11, and focus to about 3 meters. At those settings, everything from roughly 2 to 5 meters will be sharp. You never have to think about focus again.
The X100VI's focus ring is smooth enough for this, and you can use the depth-of-field scale on the screen to confirm your range.
Film Simulation for Street
For street photography, you want contrast. High contrast separates subjects from backgrounds and adds drama to everyday scenes.
- Acros + R filter -- the king of street black and white. The red filter darkens skies and adds punch to skin tones
- Classic Negative -- if you want color street, this is it. The contrast and muted greens feel like documentary work
- Classic Chrome -- more restrained than Classic Negative, good for when you want color but don't want it screaming
Shutter Speed and ISO
Set minimum shutter speed to 1/250s for street. People move, and anything slower will give you motion blur you didn't ask for. Auto ISO with a max of 6400 keeps noise manageable while letting the camera adapt to changing light as you walk between sun and shade.
The One Setting Most People Miss
Turn on the electronic shutter. The X100VI's leaf shutter is already quiet, but the electronic shutter is completely silent. Nobody knows you're shooting. That changes how people behave around you, and that changes your photos.
